Allegheny County Hazardous Materials Team Station 450 is one of five hazardous materials response team stations in Allegheny County, PA. Station 450 along with stations 420, 430, and 440 and the hazardous materials response team for the City of Pittsburgh make up all of the elements of the county hazmat response team.
The Allegheny County Hazardous Materials Team was founded in 1988 to respond to hazardous materials incidents within Allegheny County. The personnel that are on the team are volunteers from many facets of public safety: firefighters, emergency medical responders, police officers as well as industry experts. These personnel are experts who specialize in detecting, containing, and removing any release or potential release of hazardous substances to control or stabilize an incident.
In accordance with Act 165, every county is required to have a hazardous materials response team capable of responding to and mitigating known and unknown hazardous materials incidents, except those which are known to be involving weapons of mass destruction. The act also states that only state-certified hazardous materials response teams are allowed to conduct hazardous materials incident response in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
